Winter Garden Approves Redevelopment of Historic Citrus Packing Plant into 'The Old Packing House' |
City leaders greenlight transformation of 1909 facility into vibrant community hub |
Winter Garden's city commission has unanimously approved the redevelopment of the historic citrus packing plant located at 1061, 1063, and 1065 Tildenville School Road.
This initiative aims to transform the 3.7-acre site into a dynamic multi-use community space known as The Old Packing House.
Originally constructed in 1909, the facility played a pivotal role in the region's citrus industry until operations ceased in the 1990s.
The approved plans focus on preserving the site's historic industrial structures while repurposing them to accommodate art galleries, retail shops, dining establishments, and professional offices.
Enhancements include reconfigured parking, landscaped areas, a new sidewalk along Tildenville School Road, and outdoor seating spaces.
To promote neighborhood-friendly access, the development will incorporate facilities for bicycles and golf carts.
Developer Gary Hasson has been dedicated to revitalizing this landmark for nearly eight years.
His vision encompasses a community-oriented marketplace featuring diverse eateries, artisan crafts, and a state-of-the-art co-working office space named CitrusNet.
Additionally, a natural history museum is planned, showcasing prehistoric fossils and Ice Age minerals.
Construction is expected to be completed by summer 2026, marking a significant milestone in Winter Garden's ongoing efforts to honor its rich heritage while fostering community engagement. |
