In the heart of Winter Garden, Boyd Street Radio is keeping the spirit of classic rock alive, thanks to the dedication of local DJ Thorp Thomas.

 

From his home studio, Thomas curates playlists featuring legends like Fleetwood Mac, The Rolling Stones, and The Beatles, ensuring that the timeless sounds of the '60s through the '80s resonate throughout the community.

 

Thomas's passion for music dates back to his childhood in Little Rock, Arkansas, where he was inspired by radio shows like Beaker Street on KAAY AM 1090.

 

After a career in accounting and raising a family, he returned to his musical roots, launching Boyd Street Radio to provide commercial-free, 24/7 rock music for Winter Garden residents.

 

Every Friday night from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m., Thomas hosts a special two-hour segment dedicated to psychedelic rock, paying homage to his early influences.

 

His extensive vinyl collection, amassed over decades, serves as the foundation for the station's diverse programming.

 

Beyond the airwaves, Thomas's commitment to the local music scene is evident.

 

He actively participates in community events, such as the annual Winter Garden Music Festival, which showcases a variety of genres and local talent.

 

Reflecting on his journey, Thomas shares, "It's not about the money. It's when I meet people and they say, 'I really like your station,' and 'I listen to it all the time.' That's pretty cool. It's a labor of love."
